June 29, 2010
ST. LOUIS – Today SSM Rehabilitation Hospital broke ground at the site of its new freestanding location at 12380 DePaul Drive in Bridgeton, MO. Construction has officially commenced on the three-story, 66,914-square-foot, state-of-the-art rehabilitation hospital located on the campus of SSM DePaul Health Center. The new 60-bed facility will feature private patient rooms and is expected to be operational by late 2011.
Highlights of the new facility include: Expansive therapy gyms on the second and third floors with floor-to-ceiling windows, a large dining area with indoor and outdoor seating, an outdoor ambulation course for patients and a courtyard to be enjoyed by patients and families. Numerous spaces will also be created throughout the facility for private treatment and small group therapies. The facility's innovative design reflects the specialized needs of patients, families and clinicians and creates an optimal environment in which to support healing and recovery.
SSM Rehabilitation Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient medical rehabilitation care to patients with stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, and neurological and orthopedic conditions. It is operated by SSM-Select Rehab LLC, a joint venture between SSM Health Care - St. Louis and Select Medical Corporation. The joint venture is designed to provide expanded rehabilitation and post-acute services to the Greater St. Louis area.
"This is an exciting day for the SSM Rehabilitation Hospital and SSM-Select Rehabilitation St. Louis," said Doug Brewer, Vice President & Market Executive, SSM-Select Rehabilitation. "This partnership has initiated the development and construction of a freestanding rehabilitation hospital, and effectively integrated both organizations' St. Louis-based outpatient physical therapy, occupational medicine and contract therapy operations."
Currently, SSM-Select operates and/or manages inpatient medical rehabilitation programs at SSM St. Mary's Health Center and SSM St. Joseph Health Center. Once construction of the new freestanding hospital is complete, the inpatient rehabilitation operations at SSM St. Mary's Health Center and SSM St. Joseph Health Center will relocate to the new site.
Speaking at the event were: Bridgeton Mayor Conrad Bower; James Sanger, President and Chief Executive Officer, SSM Health Care – St. Louis; and Robert Ortenzio, CEO of Select Medical Corporation.
