Each Day Institute program track is specifically designed to maximize an individual's
independence and abilities. The treatment
team works with each participant and family to develop an intensive rehabilitation
program individualized to their needs.
The program focuses on physical, cognitive, communicative, interpersonal, self-care,
behavioral and psychological changes that occur after an illness or injury. Also important is practicing community
reentry skills and addressing prevocational needs, school reentry, and issues
related to return to driving. Each
program is designed to use and build strengths to correct current deficits and teach
compensatory strategies.
Amputee Rehabilitation
Program
Designed for individuals who have had a lower extremity amputation and are ready
to begin prosthetic training, the Amputee Program's intensive treatment focuses
on: maximizing mobility and self care; teaching residual limb care and prosthetic
management; and improving community reintegration.
Vocational, interpersonal and psychological changes that occur after a lower extremity
amputation are addressed. Participants
also receive information on skin care, nutrition, positioning, desensitization of
the residual limb, and prosthetic adjustment and care.
The team works closely with the participant’s prosthetist to ensure
prosthesis modifications are made as therapy progresses.
