Hand rehabilitation services are provided by SSM Physical Therapy at a number of locations
throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. Services are provided by certified hand
therapists (licensed physical or occupational therapists) specializing in functional
upper extremity rehabilitation. Comprehensive evaluation and treatment are offered
to meet the needs of persons who have an injury or disability of the hand, wrist,
forearm, or elbow due to a traumatic injury or a disease process. The program is
designed to help each patient achieve a better quality of life, independence and
comfort as well as gain maximum attainable mobility and function.

Therapy consists of certified hand therapists evaluating and establishing
individualized treatment programs which are based on assessment of such areas as
neurological status, edema, range of motion, strength, coordination, and ability
to perform.
Medical Management is coordinated with the patient's referring physician.
The certified hand therapist works closely with the referring physician to oversee
such things as splinting, wound and skin care, pain management and prosthetic fitting.
